We Are Totterdown is a socially engaged photography project that explores community, identity, and belonging in Totterdown, Bristol. Using large-scale black-and-white landscapes and colour portraits of local residents, the project creates a collective portrait of the neighbourhood and the people who shape it.
The work extends beyond galleries through posters, fly-posting, public installations, zines, and newsletters, making photography accessible within the community itself. Participants contribute their own stories, quotations, and reflections, helping to create a shared record of local life.
At its heart, the project uses photography as a tool for connection and dialogue, celebrating everyday people while exploring how art can exist within public space. The aim is to create a visual and social portrait of Totterdown that is rooted in the experiences of its residents.
